A RESOLUTION OF THE DUKE STUDENT GOVERNMENT Supporting the creation and implementation of Project Arts, a new pre-orientation program

that encourages a stronger presence of the arts during first-year orientation WHEREAS, in recent years, the popularity of pre-orientation programs has significantly increased. As a result, the number of applications received for pre-orientation programs has exceeded the number of spaces available for incoming first-year students, and; WHEREAS, in order to increase the rate of acceptance amongst pre-orientation programs, a new pre-orientation program should be developed for incoming first-year students, and; WHEREAS, due to the lack of incorporation of arts within a pre-orientation program, this new pre-orientation program, henceforth called Project Arts, ought to be established with three goals in mind, and; WHEREAS, the first goal of Project Arts is to allow first-year students to build a supportive community of peers that will help them transition into the Duke community, and; WHEREAS, the second goal of Project Arts is to allow incoming first-year students to understand that Duke University is a welcoming and opportunistic community that celebrates the arts, and; WHEREAS, the third goal of Project Arts is to strive to connect students with the city of Durham through its art community in order to form a better relationship and appreciation for the city of Durham, and; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Duke Student Government supports the creation and implementation of Project Arts for the incoming Class of 2018. This support shows that Duke Student Government is committed to achieving the aforementioned goals.
