Based on CRISS CROSS Technique

Dhaval Bathia

In this technique, we will see how to multiply Algebraic Identities. Please refer to the technique of CRISS-CROSS multiplication before studying this technique.

Dhaval Bathia

Let us suppose we want to multiply:

a+ b x a + 3b

Dhaval Bathia

We follow step (A) as seen before:

A) * *

* *

a+b
X

a + 3b 2 3b

We get the answer as (b x 3b) equals 3b2.

Dhaval Bathia

We follow step (B) as seen before:

B) * *

* *

a+b
X

a + 3b 4ab

We cross-multiply and add. (a x 3b) + (a x b) is 3ab + ab = 4ab. Dhaval Bathia

We follow step (C) as seen before:

A) * *

* *

a+b
a + 3b 2 a +4ab +3b2
X
Dhaval Bathia

We get the answer as (a x a) equals a2. The final answer is a2+ 4ab + 3b2

More Examples: (Q) Multiply (2a + 5b) with (3a + 5b)

2a + 5b x 3a + 5b Answer: 6a2 +25ab + 25b2

Dhaval Bathia

The same technique can be used to multiply 3-digit, 4-digit and other higher order numbers

(Q) Multiply (5m2 + 5m + 5) with (5m2 + 5m + 5)

5m2 + 5m + 5 x 5m2 + 5m + 5 Answer: 25m4 + 50m3 + 75m2 + 50m + 25
