TECH PROFICIENCY PAPER Abstract

After taking two surveys about my technology in the classroom, I found that I am weak in the areas of using the internet to assess my students, teaching using videos, and having students self learn via the internet. TECH PROFICIENY PAPER

Integrating technology is the future of education in both traditional and virtual classrooms. In order to become an equipped teacher to bestow my students 21st Century Skills, I need to use the most up to date technology to challenge and instruct in the classroom. After taking two surveys about how I use technology, I found that I have three distinct categories that I need to work on during this program as well as in my classroom. The three categories include enabling my students to use more internet themselves, use and create more videos, and also to use online assessments. I also found that I scored around 70% of understanding how to utilize technology in my teaching. The first online assessment I dug into was at www.adultonlineorg where I was able to see how I integrated technology and what I need to work on. I would love to engage my students in assessments by learning how to create online quizzes. The only challenge for me in my current class, is that there are not computers available for each student in my room, unless we go to a lab. In the future, however, once I learn this skill, I hope that my students even have access to smartboard quizzes where I can access their answers right away. I also see that I am already proficient on the other end of the spectrum, as I use technology to collaborate, develop, and communicate as a professional. The second quiz that I took from Qedoc showed me that I am close to understanding how to use technology, I just have to become almost 100% in using all my resources to teach my students. Basically, I was pretty familiar with the basics of computer literacy, and using it to develop my teaching, but there is always room for plenty of growth in order to become an expert.
