COMMENTS: (strengths, areas for growth, next steps): Tyler completed a five week teaching placement from November 11, 2013 to December 13, 2013 at Eastwood Collegiate Institute. During this time, Tyler taught two grade nine applied level science classes for four weeks and a grade eleven university chemistry class for one week. Through this placement, Tyler has continued to develop his teaching practice. He works very well with students and colleagues in his role as a teacher candidate. Tyler also relates well to his students by providing meaningful applications for learning and taking an interest in their daily lives. He is also knowledgeable about the subject material and has used a number of strategies to impart this knowledge to the students. Tyler continues to work on his lesson planning abilities. He has worked on implementing a variety of differentiated teaching and assessment strategies to reach all students and abilities. I would encourage Tyler to focus on his time management when planning and continue to seek resources that will help him incorporate variety and differentiated instruction in his lessons. Tyler also continues to grow in his abilities to manage a classroom environment. He has worked on using a variety of different strategies and techniques to maintain a positive classroom environment. I would encourage Tyler to continue to experiment with different management techniques to determine what will work best for him. In addition to classroom experience, Tyler has also participated in a number of extracurricular activities. He attended the Science Teachersa of Ontario Science Conference for professional development in curriculum content. He also worked with Eastwoodas Science Olympics team at Wilfrid Laurieras Science Olympics Competition. Furthermore, he acted as a supervisor at Eastwoodas InsomnEfest school fundraiser. Overall, Tyler has had a successful first placement. He has demonstrated his commitment to students and learning and continues to improve his teaching practice.
