Shooting and Uploading Your Portfolio

How to Photograph your work: 1. Clear a space on a white wall (in the classroom or in the gallery). 2. Turn on all lights and possibly use window light as long as it is not too bright and there are no shadows on your work. 3. Hang your rst work of art about eye-level. 4. Set up and adjust a tri-pod about 6 feet away from the wall. 5. Place your camera on the tri-pod. Position the camera vertically to photograph a vertical piece, horizontally for one that is horizontal. Try to make sure the work looks level. Center your work in the frame. (You may have to adjust the height of the tripod). 6. Turn o! your ash. 7. Zoom in. Leave a little bit of white space around your work. 8. Take the photograph. 9. CHECK the photograph on the playback on your camera. Zoom in. Is it in focus? 10.Proceed with the next piece. How to store your work: 1. Keep all of your original photos in a folder in your documents titled originals or raw. NEVER DELETE OR ADJUST THESE IN THIS FOLDER. 2. Create a new folder titled ap ready in order to save your cropped and adjusted images. 3. Keep images saved as: name_heightbywidth for example: olive_16x20 4. Always back up your work! Have your images for both folders in two locations your documents and a thumb drive.

How to adjust and upload your work for the AP Board: 1. Open up your rst photograph in Adobe Photoshop. 2. Click on Image. Drag down menu to Mode. Make sure photograph is in RGB color mode (it should be checked o!) 3. Use the crop tool to crop your image (exclude the mat unless it needs it to look good) 4. Click on Image on the tool bar. Drag down menu to image size 5. Adjust PPI (pixels per inch) to 72 ppi 6. Make sure constrain proportions is checked when you change PPI 7. Then change pixel dimensions depending on the following: a. IF your work is landscape orientation (hotdog) change the pixels dimensions to the following: i. Recommended maximum size: 780 x 530 pixels (10.83 x 7.36 inches) ii. Recommended minimum size: 480 x 480 pixels (6.67 x 6.67 inches) b. IF your work is portrait orientation (hamburger) change the pixel dimensions to the following: i. Recommended maximum size: 530 x 780 pixels (7.36 x 10.83 inches) ii. Recommended minimum size: 480 x 480 pixels (6.67 x 6.67 inches) c. CHECK the sizes twice and CHECK the sizes in inches as well!

8. When you go to save this image do the following: Change the format to JPEG. Title your work (with number dimensions of actual size in inches) and save into your new folder. (See rst page on how to save and store your work!)
