Outcomes Students will identify the beginning sounds of simple, everyday pictures (words) to show Initial Sound Fluency.

Students will use phoneme sounds to segment simple words in order to create onesyllable words (to show Phoneme Segmentation Fluency).

Objectives Using various iPad apps, students will be able to verbally identify the beginning sounds of simple, everyday words to show Initial Sound Fluency. Using Elkonin boxes, students will be able to segment words to show Phoneme Segmentation Fluency.

Assessments Students will complete a teacher-provided quiz (shown on teachers laptop). Students will be shown pictures and be asked to say the sound associated with the beginning of the picture name. This will be assessed for at least 90% accuracy (9 out of 10 correct).

Students will be given a double-sided worksheet to complete to practice sounds and blending. Elkonin boxes will be used (see http://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/elkonin_boxes for further information). This will be assessed for at least 90% accuracy (9 out of 10 correct).
