(ex: How would you feel if you had to live on your own without parents or anyone in authority to take care of you?)

6. ACTIVITIES:
o

Written on the board, for the students as soon as they enter the class room, are five quiz questions and the new home work that is being assigned for that night. Example quiz questions: Describe the island where the boys landed. What created the Scar on the island?
What does Piggy find? How is it used? Have students take out a piece of paper and write their name, the date, and number it. Students who finish will flip their paper over and put their head down until I come to them to pick up their paper and give each student a copy of the class discussion questions and the home work worksheets for the night. Each student who is done will have time to begin reading Chapter 2 and taking notes or studying their vocabulary.) After every student has finished the quiz students will then be divided into groups. They will need their (class room discussion questions) worksheet and their notes from their reading. While they are discussing I will be walking around the room checking in my grade book those who did or did not do their note taking for chapter 1 in Lord of the Flies.

Example Question: If there were still grownups present on the island with the boys, how would things be different how different do you think things might be for the boys. Each group will then share with the class answer one of the questions from the work sheet. We will do a quick review of the Vocabulary Play a facts/vocabulary game We will then play a jeopardy game with questions that consist of more small questions on facts from the book and the vocabulary. Groups that answer incorrectly will send a team member to pick a slip of paper from a bowl at the front of the class

7. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Paper & pencils Worksheets Slips of paper Fish bowl Slide show with Game questions Prizes 8. GROUPING: Some students may need extended time on the quiz Students may be able to understand what is being taught but cannot yet fully explain in words what it is that they understand. Some students may be afraid to talk when called on to speak in front of the class. Just need to make a reminder to them to be aware of the other class rooms that are still working quietly next door. o Make class aware of the fact that no answer is a bad one so long as it is noticeable effort made to answer as best they can.

9. DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION: Some students may need to have the quizzes read to them, may need to take it in a separate room, or may need extended time on them. Some students may have had a hard time completing the homework before class or do not completely follow the events or understand the reading and are a bit behind or they did not understand all of the reading. They may need to stay after school when I may be available to answer questions, to give more time, and attention to the students who need extra help.
