Hello, my name is Kolby Faria and I am a sophomore Biomedical Engineering student at The Catholic University of America.

Academically my performance has thrived in environments where the problem was thoroughly explained and I was allowed to work toward a solution within a group dynamic. I find that groups allow the work to be done in a more efficient manner. It is in this group dynamic that I am comfortable leading, giving the group a sense of direction toward a common goal. Having said that, my academic awards have been individual based, being a member of the Deans List my freshman year as well as receiving a position in the Freshman Honor Society (Tau Beta Pi).

My research interests stem from the idea of using engineering, specifically biomedical engineering to serve the medical community. My career and research goals are to contribute to the growth of medical technology, specifically in the field of Biomaterials and Biomechanics. I hope to use computer generated models of human performance to model injuries and find treatments for orthopedic injuries as well as find alternative treatments using Biomaterials. My current research experience is in the field of Biomaterials and Bioengineering; specifically bone regrowth which would ultimately be used to help patients who were born with bone related birth defects as well as bone replacements for damaged joints. My experience in Bioengineering has taught me a great deal. Bioengieering has allowed me to apply basic engineering and biological principles to study different microstructures as well as the many functions of bone as a material. The field of Biomaterials has allowed me access to material testing methods and constitutive models that are used to describe the mechanical behaviors of tissues in compression, tension and shear.
