What makes a sword an iconic weapon in human history?

Swords were the weapon of choice during the times of old. Many warrior races treated it with respect and honor as they went into battle. Today no one uses swords, but there are still reminders of our sword fighting past.

We button our Coats left over right, leaving the right hand free to draw the sword. We people shake hands to show we are not armed. Gentlemen escort ladies by the right arm, because his sword hangs on his left.

The original idea to make the swords came from the old stone weapons of the Stone Age. The blueprint of the sword was suppose to be a longer version of the stone dagger of prehistoric times.

When man came out of the Stone age the search for materials was needed to forge the first sword. They first used copper but mixed it with tin to create bronze to move man to the Bronze age. Some Celtic warriors would offer their swords to River Gods and Goddesses for victory in battle.

When a need to make the sword even stronger, people used the newfound Iron to make new swords. However during this time the Romans fused Iron and Carbon to gain steel for an edge in battle. Because of steel more kinds of swords were produced.

Although swords are not being used today, it still remains an icon to us all. To us the sword now, is a part of our history. One that shows how far we humans have lived to get to where we are now. A weapon that we can reflect on for ages to come.
