Committee: General Assembly 2 Question of: Improving the quality and accessibility of education in developing countries Main Submitter:

United States of America Co-Submitters: China, Ethiopia, Russia, Kenya, Bangladesh, Mexico Noting that education is power, and the need for improving the quality and accessibility of education in Lower Economically Developed Countries (LEDC)s encompasses all levels of sustainable development and all eight Millennium Development Goals, Acknowledging that 67% of the worlds population is illiterate, Disturbed that only 1% of the worlds population has a college education, 1. Urges LEDCs to allocate a manageable percentage of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) into the country's education system for means such as but not limited to: a) b) c) d) Hiring teachers, Providing textbooks, Building schools and libraries, Subsidization of school fees;

2. Recommends United Nations Education, Social and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to monitor and recommend suitable adjustments to the percentage of GDP invested into education; 3. Requests LEDCs to ensure that children receive a minimum of six years of education through ways such as but not limited to imposing a fine on parents who do not send their children to school; 4. Calls for More Economically Developed Countries (MEDCs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and United Nation Organisations (UNOs) to assist in the building of school infrastructure in LEDCs, through ways such as but not limited to: a) Donating funds, b) Supplying building force, c) Supplying expertise on architecture and engineering; 5. Proposes that member nations, with help from NGOs, work on spreading awareness of the importance of education through methods such as but not limited to: a) Creating awareness programs and campaigns that focus on: i. The importance for child workers to maintain a balance between education and work, ii. The importance of education in helping children build a more financially-secure future, b) Having these campaigns take place in schools, local community centres, and public areas; 6. Emphasizes the need for equal educational rights and opportunities for both men and women without further debate, to further facilitate growth and development; 7. Decides to remain actively seized in the matter.
