Hi! Im Roger. I'm 15. Some of my classmates and I have a small music band at school. We play both rock and pop music. I play the guitar well but I sing terribly. Mark and Andrew sing beautifully, so they usually sing together. Mark would like to play the drums, but he does it so badly that George always plays them. Tonight we will have a show after classes at school. We will put up the stage very quickly because if we do it slowly, we won't finish on time. Before the concert begins we will carefully check that everything works all right. We have invited our parents but many of them rarely come because they don't like music played loudly.

For Karen Hoffman, competing in the Triathlon was the easy part. The hard part began nine months ago, when she started training for this event.

Karen, 16, our first junior national champion - and the only girl to ever win that competition - gave us an interview in her home in Boston. She said that winning that race was the best thing that ever happened to her. She also thought that her parents help and support were decisive in becoming a winner. She added that her daily routine was also essential. I asked this blue-eyed girl about it and, with a big smile on her face, she replied that she always got up early, no matter what day it was, a Monday or a Sunday, and that she went to bed early all the time. About her eating habits, she confessed that she always ate something sweet after meals. She told us that she always ate fresh vegetables and fruit, and that she tried to avoid red meat as much as possible. In relation to exercising, she said she went for a jog every morning and that she continued exercising with her coach. Not smoking played a big role, too. You may wonder if this beautiful, extroverted girl had any spare time while training for the national competition: she simply said she did not have enough time to read books or magazines but she sometimes went to the cinema, watched TV and listened to music. She even shared some weekends with her boyfriend Paul! As you can see, this extraordinary girl lives a fairly ordinary life. Karen represents the true Olympic spirit. She is an example worth following.

HANDOUT BUM THE TREASURE
There once was a man and his name was Isaac. He lived in such poverty that time after time he went to bed hungry.

BUM

One night, he had a dream. In his dream, a voice told him to go to the capital city and look for the treasure under the bridge by the Royal Palace. It was only a dream, he thought when he woke up, and so he paid no attention to it. The dream repeated itself a second time. And Isaac paid no attention to it. When the dream came back a third time he said, Maybe its true, and he decided to set out on his journey.

Every now and then, someone gave him a ride, but most of the way he walked. He walked through forests; he crossed deserts and went over mountains. Finally he reached the capital city, but when he came to the bridge by the Royal Palace, he found that it was guarded day and night. He did not dare to search for the treasure. Yet he returned to the bridge every morning and wandered around it until dark.

One day, the captain of the guards asked him, Why are you here? Isaac told him the dream. The captain laughed. You poor fellow, he said, What a pity you wore your shoes out for a dream! Listen, if I believed a dream I once had, I would go right now to the city you came from and Id look for a treasure under the stove in the house of a fellow named Isaac. And he laughed again. Isaac bowed to the captain and started his long way back home. He went over mountains. He crossed deserts and walked through forests. Every now and then , someone gave him a ride, but most of the way he walked. At last, he reached his own town.

When he got home, he dug under his stove, and there he found the treasure. In thanksgiving, he built a house of prayer, and in one of its corners he put the inscription: Sometimes one must travel far to discover what is near. Isaac sent the captain of the guards a priceless ruby. And for the rest of his days he lived in contentment and he never was poor again.
