3 Upgrade Preparations
During the small-scale BTS upgrade (from BTS3000V100R008 to BTS3000V100R009), the service
interruption time depends on the number of upgraded BTSs and the types of configured boards in the
BTSs. The service interruption time of a BTS is related to the upgrade sequence of the BTS in the
upgrade task. For example, if 15 BTSs are upgraded and the BTS configuration is GTMU+DRFU,
the services of the 15 BTSs are interrupted for 9 to 20 minutes.
The service interruption time of the cascaded BTSs changes in a certain range.
When the alarm indicating that the GSM cells are out of service is cleared, the services are resumed.
In other words, the service interruption time ends when this alarm is cleared.

1.5 Precautions
1.
Determine whether the M2000 and the BSC6900 should also be upgraded according to
the version configuration information released with the BTS3000V100R009C00SPC079
Release Notes.doc.
2.
Services are interrupted during the upgrade. Therefore, the upgrade must be performed at
the time specified by the customer.
3.
4.
The service interruption time and the communication interruption time mentioned earlier
are obtained on the assumption that the network performance is the best. Therefore, the
time is for reference only.
5.
Configurations on the BSC6900 LMT or the CME require BTS configuration rights.
Therefore, do not upgrade BTSs through the BSC6900 LMT or CME. Otherwise, the
one-click upgrade may fail.
6.
7.
The BTSs whose versions are different before an upgrade should be upgraded in batches.

For details, see section 7.5"Why the BTSs of Different Versions Before the Upgrade

4.
If the software versions of two BTSs are inconsistent before an upgrade, different BTS
software packages are created. In this case, do not upgrade the two BTSs at the same time.
For example, if the software version of one BTS is BTS3000V100R008C11SPC001 and that
of the other BTS is BTS3000V100R008C11SPC007, do not upgrade the two BTSs at the
same time. For details, see section 7.5"Why the BTSs of Different Versions Before the

If the version of the BTS software is BTS3000V100R008C11 before an upgrade, do not reset
the BTS after loading the BTS software and before activating the BTS software. If you reset
the BTS at that time, you must re-load the BTS software.
The elapsed time for loading the BTS software depends on the number of upgraded BTSs and
the types of configuration boards in the BTSs.
In the case of not more than 100 BTSs: Assume that the number of BTSs to be loaded is
100 and the BTS configuration is GTMU+DRFUs. In this case, the BTS software loading
in ordinary mode takes 45 minutes, either in small-scale or large-scale upgrade.
In the case of more than 100 BTSs: Assume that the number of BTSs to be loaded is 150
and the board configuration is GTMU+DRFUs. In this case, the BTS software loading in
ordinary mode is divided into two batches, either in small-scale or large-scale upgrade.
The first batch loading completes 100 BTSs and the second batch loading completes the
remaining 50 BTSs. The loading time is 90 minutes (45 minutes x 2 batches).
Step 1 Log in to M2000 client, and then choose Software > NE Upgrade Task Management > NE

upgraded BTS. Wait five minutes for the alarm to be cleared. If the GSM Cell out of

Issue 01 (2010-10-30)
Before collecting the information described in 7.3, you must back up BTS configuration data.
Step 1 If the pre-activation check or activation of configuration data fails, contact Huawei engineers.
See section 3.14"Performing the Pre-activation Check on the Configuration Data" to ensure
that the pre-activation check is successful.
Step 2 If the upgrade failure is caused by other reasons, collect the detailed information about the
software upgrade failure. In addition to the information listed in 7.3, you also need to collect
the detailed information about the upgrade failure by double-clicking the progress field to
open the Detail dialog box, which provides the detailed information about upgrade failure.
Before collecting the information described in 7.3, you must back up BTS configuration data.
Step 3 After the related information is collected, you can perform re-upgrade or rollback according
to the actual conditions.
Conditions of re-upgrade
The re-upgrade function can be used only when the BTS software activation fails.
Purpose of re-upgrade
If the software activation fails during the upgrade, the activation task needs to be
recreated. On the BSC6900 LMT, however, the BTS of activation failure may not be
displayed in the list. In this case, you can select Re-Upgrade to view all the BTSs
controlled by the BSC, and then select the BTS of activation failure for re-activation.
Re-upgrade solution
Re-upgrade can be performed only after a new task of Small-sized BTS upgrade
(without resetting the BSC) is created. If re-upgrade fails, contact Huawei technical
support engineers.
Conditions of rollback
Perform re-upgrade unless customers require rollback.
Rollback solution
You are advised to perform small-sized BTS rollback. For details, see 3.
Issue 01 (2010-10-30)
Description
Re-rollback is performed only when rollback fails. The usage of re-rollback is similar
to the usage of re-upgrade.
In the case of software rollback, the rollback process is different for BTSs of different target
versions. For example, the rollback process of the target BTS version
BTS3000V100R008C02 is different from that of the target BTS version
BTS3000V100R008C11. For details, see section 6.2"Rollback Process."

If the MML command configuration file of the current BSC version is not downloaded, a dialog box will
be displayed prompting you to download the file from the server. Click YES, and the Upgrade dialog
box is displayed. When the upgrade progress reaches 100%, the MML command configuration file is
completely downloaded. Click OK.
Step 4 On the LMT interface of the MML Command window, enter DLD GENFILE in the

Because the loading and the activation of the software require the user to wait, thus you are advised to
select the All mode. The execution modes and their meanings are as follows:
Step by Step: You need to click Go before each MML command is executed.
Breakpoint: You can set break points for the execution to control the execution process.
