Site Clearance and Demolition

Objective
To define standard procedures and arrangements for site clearance and demolition works

Scope
This methodology covers demolition of existing structures and clearance of construction site in accordance with Construction drawings and Specifications and to the satisfaction of the Engineer.

Procedure
Prior to start of demolishing activities all structures that are to be demolished will be thoroughly examined to ascertain their type, construction details and appropriate method of demolition to be used. Method statement for demolishing of structures compromising of sequence and method of working will be submitted for the approval of Engineer before the commencement of demolishing and breaking out of each type of structure. Demolishing will be carried out in controlled manner using suitable equipment such as cranes, excavators, Jack hammers and chisels or pneumatic or electric breakers etc as per site requirements with the approval of Engineer without causing any damage to the adjacent structures. Demolition and breaking out will be carried out by taking all the necessary measures such as providing protective barriers, safety barriers etc to ensure safe working. Redundant services such as electrical cables, transformers, pipe work, ducts etc will be disconnected and removed in the area to be demolished as per consultation with the relevant statutory authorities. Services which are to remain in use will be protected from damage and kept clear of debris at all times. All redundant foundations, manholes, drains and buried items will be completely broken out, and removed accordingly as per Engineers instructions. The demolished material will be sorted and disposed-off accordingly as per Engineers including material to be deposited at clients store, debris and by-products.

All demolishing activities will be properly supervised to ensure the performance as per specifications and given details on drawings to the satisfaction of Engineer.
