Character Sam Violante

We chose the name Sam as we wanted to suggest a unisexual name. That way the stalker would appear to have no preference to who he attacked. Violante is a reference to one of the last victims of the Son of Sam killings Stacy Moskowitz and Robert Violante. These serial killings were carried out by David Berkowitz and lasted the span of almost a year (29 July 1976 31 June 1977) who is now carrying 25 to life sentences for each killing, consecutively. Violante survived the last attack but his partner did not. Similarly to each one of these victims our victim Sam is wearing contemporary modern clothes so appears to be average within society. Sam appears to be a typical passive female victim because she is clueless of Ian Moones presence which makes her inferior to Ian. The surname Violante may also be used ironically as it is similar to the word violent which may suggest that she may not actually be the ambiguous innocent victim she is suggested to be.

Character Ian Moone

Our antagonist Ian Moone is an archetype of killers in the thriller genre. He is white, wearing a dark jacket similar to the dark trench coat of Harry Lime from The Third man filmed in 1949. these coats are considered intimidating and dangerous which is what we wanted Ian to appear as. The dark gloves similar to Ordell from the thriller film Jackie Brown filmed in 1997. These dark clothes make him appear as a much more dominant character, especially because his stalking goes completely unnoticed by Sam. We decided upon the name Ian Moone because it is an acronym for I am No One, this name was used in the crime show Criminal Minds who profile a killer based on their actions. This profile eventually leads to the killers capture. This name emphasised our killers alienation from society. We wanted Ians behaviour to not be overly aggressive, but rather it started out calm and mysterious, almost premeditated. This suggested Ians thoughtful nature much like the Ian from Criminal Minds who was a killer that killed heroes that laboured a dark secret. For example he killed a paramedic who saved 5 people from a fire. But no one knew he started the fire. Moone also references the term lunatic. This is because lunatic originated from the term moonstruck which means foolish or unpredictable, this suggests Ians psychopathic nature.
