CONGKAK

The word congkak is believed to originate from old Malay word, "congak", meaning "mental calculation" which is mainly practiced in this game. It is regarded that an efficient player who mentally calculates a few steps in advance will have an advantage in collecting points to win the game. The word congkak or congklak also means cowrie shells, used in the game. A congkak board usually has 1 holes. ! holes are called the storehouses. The remaining 1" holes are called houses. #nly ! people are able to play at one time. There will be $ marbles in each house at the beginning of the game. %ach player&s storehouse is on his or her left. HOW TO PLAY: 1. 'oth players will begin at the same time. They will each deposit one by one marble into each hole e(cept their opponent&s storehouse. !. If the last marble is deposited into one of their opponent&s empty house, they will lose their turn and the marble as well. ). If the last marble is deposited into one of their own empty house, they will gain a bonus. They will be able to take the last marble as well as all the marbles from the opposite hole, which are from the opponent&s side and place all the marbles into their own storehouse. ". If the last marble is deposited into their own storehouse, they are able to continue the game by taking the marbles from any holes in their side of the board. *. The game ends when there are no more marbles in any of the houses, the player with the most number of marbles in their storehouse wins.
