Steps To Being An Industrial Engineer

Step 1
In high school I am planning to take all honors courses so that I can take a higher class and challenge myself.

Step 2
I like to build and design different things. So during our project I have looked in to jobs dealing with this. In high school I am planning to take carpentry and drafting throughout my years at Hoggard.

Step 3
During my senior year I will get a job with a carpenter or at a construction site. This will help me pay for my college education.

Step 4
In my senior year I will take early college classes at cape fear.

Step 5
The job that I have found that interests me the most is being an industrial engineer.

Step 6
I have found that NC state university has a great engineering program. I am going to try to get into the engineering program at NC state.

Step 7
I will get my bachelor's degree in engineering.

Step 8
NC state offers financial help called the FAFSA. To insure FAFSA you have to apply each year and work towards your goal.

Step 9
To be an industrial engineer you have to have 3-5 years of on the job experience. Once I have my bachelor's degree I will apply for a job and contact an engineering department at a local university to find job internships. Most universities have information about jobs not typically advertised to the general public.

Step 10
If my job application is accepted. I will work for 3-5 years to get my job experience needed for the job.

Step 11
After I get job experience I will apply for a job at General Electric.

Step 12
I will work at General Electric for a while then I will go back to college.

Step 13
I will get my master's degree in engineering. Then I will return to my job at GE.

Step 14
I plan to work at General Electric until age 68.

Step 15
I will retire at age 68.
