Trelawneys Transitive and Intransitive Verbs Rules: Intransitive and transitive verbs are both action verbs, meaning

they demonstrate action. The difference between them is simple: Transitive verbs are followed by an object that receives the action. Intransitive verbs are not followed by an object. Examples: Trelawney prophesied his demise. (transitive) Trelawney prophesied on that fateful night. (intransitive on that fateful night is a prepositional phrase, not an object that receives the action) he was expecting him. (transitive) he was waiting. (intransitive) Exercise: Underline and make a list of all the action verbs in the following paragraph. Label them as transitive or intransitive. If the verb is more than one word, include the entire verb phrase. Tip: Be careful not to list be or linking verbs ybill Trelawney was enjoying the cool autumn evening.
