Unit 4, Day 2 Introduction to Triangles, Congruency and Similarity

Warm-up 1. In your notes sheet from yesterday, write a definition of the triangle sum theorem in your own words 2. An isosceles triangle has to have at least t wo congruent sides. What can you guess about their angles? Draw a sketch that represents your conjecture.

Important Theorems
Review: All interior angles of a triangle always add up to what?

Important Theorems
This is the TRIANGLE SUM THEOREM: the sum of three interior angles of any triangle add up to 180 degrees SHOW IT: create a triangle with your loose leaf, rip up the angles and connect them to create a straight line! Does this work for all triangles?

Review Homework
Decide which of the following combinations of features are possible. If it is possible, draw a sketch. If not, explain why not. a. A scalene right triangle b. An isosceles right triangle c. A scalene obtuse triangle d. An equilateral right triangle e. A right triangle thats also obtuse f. An equilateral triangle that is obtuse

Important Theorems
Work in your table groups to complete the investigation to discover how we find the measure of an exterior angle.

Review Investigation:
What did you find out?
