DALLAS EXECUTIVE AIRPORT HOSTS TOWN HALL MEETING ON THURSDAY, APRIL 3 AT 6:30 PM TO DISCUSS RUNWAY EXTENSIONS AND REINFORCEMENTS Many Dallas residents in neighborhoods most impacted by increased traffic plans at Dallas Executive Airport (formerly Red Bird Airport) are expected to attend a town hall meeting. with regard to the approved new runway expansion/repair program that was previously announced by city council member/Economic Development Chair, Tennell Atkins in the Dallas News. City Aviation Director Mark Duebner, will host the meeting at the Dallas Executive Airport Conference Center, 5303 Challenger on Thursday, April 3rd at 6:30pm. All city council members in the southern sector have been invited to attend this meeting to hear their constituents concerns and questions. Both council members Atkins and Hill have declined to attend due to previously scheduled meetings. Areas of concern focus on noise abatement, potential economical and environmental impact due to larger jets that would be landing at the airport. The residents are asking to have transparent conversations with city leaders to discuss the positive and negative impacts on their neighborhoods for decades in the future. Council members Atkins and Hill have publicly stated that the goal for this expansion project is to bring more air traffic via larger, private jet landings that weigh up to 90,000 lbs to the airport, rather than landing at Addison and Love Field respectively. These two council members have stated that the additional air traffic would bring economic vitality to Oak Cliff. Dallas residents have been concerned about the lack of notification and communication regarding the expansion plans. A vote to allocate $3 million towards the new construction project was unanimously approved by a city council vote on February 12, 2014 via consent agenda, with construction to begin this Summer. The State of Texas has agreed to spend $35 million on the project. Last weekend, residents from various neighborhoods distributed over 600 fliers with the April 3rd meeting information to area homes. A new master plan is currently being prepared by Coffman Associates. This report has not yet been released by City Staff, even though construction begins this July. Oak Cliff residents were very anxious that this plan would be being adopted without their input. The plan will contain noise abatement information, environmental effects and cost benefit analysis which is scheduled to be presented to the City of Dallas, later this month. There has not been an announcement from the City of Dallas to include the surrounding neighborhoods to see that specific plan before construction begins this July. All Dallas residents living in the Oak Cliff area surrounding Dallas Executive Airport are encouraged to attend this very important town hall meeting on April 3rd at 6:30 pm to begin a conversation with City of Dallas officials. # # #
