Extension Activities

1. Choose 10 difficult words from your current book and make a crossword puzzle with them. Use the definitions as the clues. Write a new ending to the book youre reading. Write an acrostic poem about a character. Write a rap/song about what you read. Create a game about what you read. Write a brief version of this story as though it took place in a different time period or a different country. Draw an illustration that symbolizes the book to you. Draw a cartoon version of your favorite part. Make a picture book version of the story. Design a new cover for the book. Write a journal entry as though you are one of the characters in the book. Research the author of your book. (You decide what is extra credit-worthy research). Write a letter to the author of your book. Pretend to interview one of the characters. Write out the questions and responses. Turn your favorite part of the book into a scene from a play. (Write your favorite part as a script with stage directions).

Extension Activities Directions


All assignments must be completed on a normal size sheet of paper (8.5 x 11) except if you create a game. Your assignment must be labeled with the Extension Activity number to receive credit. You may complete 1 activity each week, and you may NOT repeat activities until the next 6 weeks. Most of these assignments are very open-ended. You must decide what amount of effort and quality is true extra credit work.
