Project Based Learning Lesson Ideas The following are the two TEKS I will like to use during

my project based learning lesson. (2) Number, operation, and quantitative reasoning. The student adds, subtracts, multiplies, or divides to solve problems and justify solutions. The student is expected to: (D) use division to find unit rates and ratios in proportional relationships such as speed, density, price, recipes, and student-teacher ratio

(5) Proportionality. The student applies mathematical process standards to use proportional and non-proportional relationships to develop foundational concepts of functions. The student is expected to: (H) identify examples of proportional and non-proportional functions that arise from mathematical and real-world problems; Lesson Ideas The lesson will be a three-week lesson and will be over the concept of proportions and ratios. The lesson consists of having students plan the best vacation ever. Students will be given an entry document from a travel company. The teacher can provide the entry document or he/she can invite a travel agent to the classroom and let him introduce the idea of preparing an awesome vacation. During this lesson the students will be asked to plan the vacation and they should make two stops during the road trip. The students will need to find out how much gas is being used and how much money does it cost. And how much the total of the trip will be. The students will need to find the difference between traveling in a car and traveling in an airplane. The students will need to do research and present their vacations formally.
