AMAZON WEB SERVICES(AWS)

CLOUD WORKSHOP AND UNCONFERENCE

Amazon Web Services

Disruptive technologies such as Cloud Computing and Infrastructure-as-a-Service(IaaS) are
rapidly becoming main-stream. With the maturity of the technology, the business aspects such as
shifting the outgo from Capital Expenditure to Operating Expenditure are proving to be attractive.
Amazon Web Services(AWS), is a pioneer and market leader in Infrastructure as Service(IaaS)
market. AWS offers a rich set of Application Programming Interface(API) to utilize its
infrastructure as well as other related services on a pay-only-for-what-you-use post-paid billing
model.

The Cloud as a Platform

Building the right infrastructure that can scale up or down in a moment's notice can be a
complicated and expensive task, but it's essential in today's business landscape. This applies to an
enterprise trying to cut-costs, a young business unexpectedly saturated with customer demand, or a
start-up looking to launch.

Amazon Web Services(AWS) provides a highly reliable and scalable infrastructure for
deploying web-scale solutions, with minimal support and administration costs, and more flexibility
than the traditional data center.

The inherent flexibility of the AWS cloud enables businesses to use it as a Platform in
variety of different ways. In this session, Seattle-based Jinesh Varia will cut through the cloud hype
and discuss some of the emerging patterns by sharing real-world customer stories and case-studies
demonstrating how the AWS cloud is being used as a platform for innovation.

AWS Cloud Workshop and Unconference

Chennai has a vibrant community of Amazon Web Services(AWS) Enthusiasts and Users.
There are several Chennai based technology companies that have deployed AWS in their production
environment and derived immense business benefits out of it. The AWS Cloud Workshop and
Unconference event is an initiative to (once again) bring together the AWS user community in and
around Chennai region. The key focus of the event is to facilitate learning, sharing, and networking.
The deep-dive workshop sessions covers the learning aspect while the unconference session
promotes knowledge sharing. The deep-dive nature of the workshop is best suited for System
Integrators, ISVs, software architects and Product Engineering Technical Decision Makers.

Unconference

An unconference is an event format that encourages wider and deeper participation. Even
the agenda of the event is evolved 'on-the-fly' by the participants. Informality, sharing, and
soliciting alternative techniques/point of views are definign characteristics of an unconference.

AWS Workshop and Unconference is designed to highlight both the Technology Platform
Provider( ie AWS) side of the story as well as the Technology Users side of the story. While the
workshop sessions are primarily about the AWS platform, the unconference is all about the AWS
platform users. A few pre-announced talks/demos seed the unconference, while there is ample
opportunity to present inpromptu talks/demos. The invited/pre-announced talks/demos are by AWS
users sharing about their experience of deploying AWS in production.

The impromptu talks/demos are typically 3-6minutes slots. A startup presenting their AWS
use case, nifty tips and tricks related to an AWS service, sharing about cost comparisions etc make
good impromptu talks. Here are a few illustrative example topics:

• How to host static websites using S3. Or Your awesome website for less than Rs 25 per
month!

• Elastic IP alternative using Zerigo DNS api.

• The HOW TO and advantages of booting up from Elastic Block Store(EBS)

Let your imagination flutter, Come, participate in the Unconference and make it a
massive success, Your Success!
