Jobs boost for Jetstar welcomed

Jetstars decision to establish a new Australian flying base at the Adelaide Airport has generated more than 130 new jobs in South Australia. Minister for Employment Gail Gago today joined Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall and several of the new locally-based staff to officially launch the new base which was first announced last December. This is a great announcement for local jobs, Ms Gago said. The transfer of aircraft from Darwin has seen Jetstar hire 85 new customer service staff in a range of flying and ground operations roles, along with the relocation of 5 cabin crew from interstate and more than 40 pilots. Ms Gago said the move was in direct response to Jetstars increased services through Adelaide Airport. She said Adelaide Airport is South Australias largest single site employment precinct, with approximately 6,200 people working within the airport precinct, and a further 2,500 directly employed as a result of the collective activities of the corporate community at the airport. Through this move, Jetstar has more than trebled its South Australian workforce - a tremendous success for our state by any measure, she said. Through an investment of more than $500,000 in this new cabin crew base, Jetstar have shown continued confidence in Adelaide. The State Government will continue working with business to deliver new jobs that will help grow our economy into the future. Ms Gago said the increase in staff through the introduction of the new base has brought Jetstars total Adelaide workforce to more than 170 people.
