Benazir Bhutto Chair Office in collaboration with the Department of Gender Studies at the Lahore College for Women University is organizing a lecture titled Family Law Reforms in Pakistan: Challenges and Prospects by Dr. Shaheen Sardar Ali on Tuesday April 8th, 2014. Dr. Shaheen Sardar Ali will trace the historical development of modern Pakistani family law, looking at features specific to the Pakistani legal landscape including (among others), the colonial legacy and influence of common law, the powers and place of the courts, the contested Islamic character of the State and myth of islamisation through law reform. Dr. Ali is BA; LLB; MA; LLM; PhD, Professor of Law at Warwick and Vice-Chair of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, who was included in the 100 most influential Pakistani women in 2012. The lecture will begin at 11:00 am sharp in the IT Conference Room @ LCWU main campus.
