MathThis week Miss Bickel worked on finding metric units of capacity with liquids, determining whether to measure with weight or mass, how to convert customary and metric units, and how to calculate elapsed time. It was a big week in math! We will be finishing up our unit next week and then testing when we return from Camp Amigo. We will have lots of reviewing to do. not have a regular reading story. We will instead work on enriching a few reading skills, and students will be working a wrap-up project on their novels that they have completed.
ReadingWith only having three days of instruction next week due to Camp Amigo, we will GrammarWe will turn next week into a review week for the skills we have covered in
this unit and take our unit 5 quiz. The skills that will be on the quiz will be adverbs, comparative and superlative adjectives, demonstrative adjectives (this, that, these, those), adjectives and articles, and contractions and negatives.
WritingThis week Miss Bickel introduced our next writing unit which conveniently comes
during National Poetry Month...poetry! Students created a foldable detailing the different types of poems that they will be reading and writing in the next month. Students reviewed characteristics of poetry and were exposed to many examples of poetry in our everyday world.
SpellingWith our short week next week, we will not have our regular spelling test. Our
next spelling list will come home next Wednesday, before Camp Amigo, for the following week.
Social StudiesStudents learned about the events that led to the end of the Revolutionary War this week. They discovered what was gained in our victory and how it shaped our future country. We will be wrapping up chapter 9 next week. Students will fill out chapter 9 study guide before we go to Camp Amigo. We will be taking the chapter 9 test the following week. Our next chapter will be about the government in our newly independent country and how it changed from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution.
ScienceWe spent the week really diving into food chains and webs and how they inter-
twine. Miss Bickel spent time highlighting the importance of decomposers in the food chain and the effect that it would have if there were none. Students began an organism project that will incorporate everything we have covered so far (adaptations, habitat, food chain, food web, etc.)
