THE ELOISE GOMEZ REYES StORY

ELOISeS HARD WORK BeGAN IN THe FIeLDS AND CONTINUeS.

Eloises parents worked hard to raise her and her five brothers and sisters. To help put food on the table and afford clothes for school, the family began working the field together picking onions at farms throughout the Inland Empire. 1 When she was 12, Eloise picked onions, topped them, cut off the root, and boxed them. Her mom and the rest of the kids, including her 4 year-old sister, did the same. Eloises younger brother stacked the boxes four high and the family was paid 40 cents per box. For Eloise, this was only the beginning of a lifetime of hard work. She got involved in her community as a teenager, starting a drill team for young girls called the Smiling Faces of Colton that performed in parades across the Inland Empire. She worked up to three jobs at a time to put herself through San Bernardino Valley College, USC, and Loyola Law School. Eloise now works hard to stand up to big corporations on behalf of injured workers, getting them the care they need. She also puts her passion for this community to work by providing free legal services to needy families and helping residents protect and strengthen their neighborhoods. And shes still the fastest onion topper in the family.
