(CCSS 7.G.A.1) Warm up (Anticipation Guide) Display short phrases on the board that go along with an article you will give students titled Basic Facts about Tigers (http://www.defenders.org/tiger/basic-facts) Give phrases such as: o Largest member of the felid cat family o Long, thick, reddish coats o Bengal, Siberian, Malayan o Eat wild pigs, water buffalo, antelope o 400-675 lbs Ask students to predict what the article will be about on a piece of paper. After 2-3 minutes, ask for predictions. Hand out article once students have the dimensions for a tiger, ask them to draw a rectangular or square cage for the tiger on a piece of graph paper. They must then find the area and perimeter of the cage they have created. After they have completed their blueprint and found its dimensions, they must talk with two other people about why they drew their cage the shape and size that they did. (Turn this in when completed Formative Assessment) Notes on perimeter and area of a triangle as a class Quick checks students do examples on their own and raise their hands once they are done so I can come check their work (Formative Assessment) choose a few to share their work on the board and teach the class.
