Founded by Michael R Bloomberg with the help of Thomas Secunda, Duncan MacMillan and Charles Zegar in 1982 while Merryl Lynch played as an investor and had 30% shares. Formally known as Innovative Market Systems The first news division for Bloomberg was formed in 1990. The website for the firm was set up in 1993 as a financial portal with information of market, currency conversion, news and the terminal subscription. Michael Bloomberg gave up his CEO position in 2001 to run for the Mayor of New York City. Later on, he bought Merryl Lynch out and became the sole owner of the firm at 88% shares Bloomberg bought Businessweek in 2009, one of the biggest financial news channels in the world, for only $5 million in cash, a relatively cheap deal.

Bloomberg Leadership

Peter T. Grauer is Chairman of Bloomberg L.P., succeeding company founder Michael R. Bloomberg in March 2001. Daniel L. Doctoroff has been President of Bloomberg L.P. since January 2008 and was named CEO of the company in 2011. Beth Mazzeo is Chief Operating Officer and a member of Bloombergs Management Committee. Thomas F. Secunda is the global head of Bloomberg's Financial Products & Services and is one of the founding partners of Bloomberg L.P. He was named Vice Chairman in 2011. Matthew Winkler is editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News, the global news service he founded with Michael Bloomberg in 1990.
