SARS-Coronavirus ?

- Virion (pleomorphic ): a. Single stranded positive-sense RNA b. Membrane-bound (covered with a distinctive fringe of widely spaced, club-shaped surface projections)

- Genome : 27-32 kb, which code : Structural proteins (S, E, M, N) & Non structural proteins (replicase polyprotein) Receptor : ACE2 - Host : animals (?) & humans SARS virus exists outside a human host - Human coronavirus : usually difficult to grow in tissue culture - More stable than other known human Coronaviruses Inactivated with : ether & chloroform, 56C

Epidemiology - Lower resp. tract infection - Hongkong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapura - Transmission : by droplet respiratorius, by direct & indirect contact by aerosolization of infected faeces ?? ~ animal market ?? - Super-spreaders - Moderately transmissible

Lab Diagnosis
- Specimens : sputum, usap/washing tenggorok, stool - Virus isolation - Ab detection (ELISA) - Nucleic acid detection (RT-PCR)
