Laila Mahgoub Rationale

This unit is designed for third grade students focused on the characteristics of the Moon and its eight phases. Students will learn key vocabulary about the Moon will develop an awareness of how the moon changes phases. Students will learn about the first Moon landing by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. This unit will address the standard located at the bottom of this page. The lessons will be incorporating science, social studies, reading, and writing subjects. Standards: 3.3.3.B1 Describe the changes that occur in the observable shape of the moon over the course of the month. RF.3.4.B Read grade level prose and poetry with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression. SL.3.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade 3 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly. SL.3.4 Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking clearly at an understandable pace. W.3.1 Write opinion pieces on topics or test, supporting a point of view with reasons.
