Two gures are congruent iff they have exactly the same size and shape. This means that a gure can be translated, rotated, or reected so that it ts exactly on the other gure.

The symbol for congruence is When two gure are congruent, we always list corresponding labels in the same order. For instance, in the gure on your notes, it is correct to say that ABC = DEF because A corresponds to D, B corresponds to E, and C to F. But itd be incorrect to say: ABC = FDE
