Understanding

Meaning-making
Incorporating Bakthin’s
Multivoicedness
But first let’s
revisit Rogoff

 Perception-conception is mostly involuntary and

subconscious, but is also be driven by interest
 In a sociocultural activity, new cycle of P-C leads to new
social/functional - S/F1, S/F2…
 In a ‘non-sociocultural activity’, new cycle of P-C do lead to
new social/functional, but at a longer runway.
 In other words, new P-C has to be transformative enough
before new social/functional can emerge
Now to Bakthin’s Multivoicedness

 I first have the impression that when

linguistic meets non-linguistic conception,
the marriage leads to a re-orientation or
re-conceptualization of the non-linguistic
conception
 But I have a different view now
 1st scenario – the marriage is a good match
 2nd scenario – the marriage is a ‘less that perfect’ match
 In the second scenario, no changes to pre-linguistic perception.
The integrity remains intact and the utterer will seek new
approach at the next avail opportunity. E.g. use phrase or
narrative instead or word/term or use different modality like
