Carleton Place, ON K7C 0C4 cc: Rankin Terrace Non Profit Housing Corporation March 5, 2014 Re: Damage to Lattice Fence Your letter dated January 13, 2014, clearly reflects a decision that was made without the character of the children accused of breaking the fence taken into consideration. Although Rankin Terrace is supposed to be a family friendly community, there is and always has been a level of hostility towards the children. You are taking the eye-witness testimony of one person who apparently viewed the three children climbing the fence. You did not ask or invite the three children who are being accused of breaking the fence to defend themselves. You must be assuming that since they are children, they would lie about the situation. Otherwise, you would have asked what their account was before accusing them. One of the three has accidentally broken a window in the past which nobody saw happen. His first reaction was to come and tell us what had happened and then tell the neighbours. We paid for the replacement window and were very proud of our son because it shows that he takes responsibility for his actions. We have seen this behaviour time and time again with all three of the accused children. The letter that we originally received in January was the first that we had heard about the supposed incident that had taken place one full month earlier. In February, I approached Drew to ask what he had seen. Although the letter states that this took place on December 12 (Thursday (my boys are at hockey)), Drew told me that it took place on Thursday and Saturday. The boys state that Drew never spoke to them. He also said that he saw one of the boys knee go through the lattice. Nowhere in the letter, however, does it state that the latticework was broken in three areas where the boys had kicked it in. A knee going through latticework is a small movement and I would challenge anyone with good eye sight to see that from within a unit 20+ yards away. So did a knee go through or were they kicking out sections? Im trying to picture what my children are accused of doing and what we are being charged for? I would also like to have explained to me why the Removal of Washer put out on Garbage Pad is being billed to me. I guess that I am also responsible for the cracked foundation between 46 Aldburn Pl and 48 Aldburn Pl. I expect that an invoice will also come my way. By the way, after the ground was dug up to fix the foundation, the soil was never replaced and what was left, was being quickly washed away by the rain. I complained over and over about this to Paul and they finally came to fix the problem over a month later. They dumped fill which quickly washed away as well. I ended up putting out over $100 on fill and sod, and a lot of my time to fix the problem that wasnt dealt with by Paul or Maloney Property Management Inc.

If we receive proof that our children are responsible for all of the damage that they are being accused of and not the just the unsubstantiated accusation of the repairman, we will gladly take responsibility and pay the invoice. However, we do require proof and a proper invoice which doesnt also include the removal of the washer.
