Mixtures
A mixture is a combination of two or more

different types of materials. Materials keep their original physical properties. Mixtures can be easily separated.
Can anyone think of different types of mixtures?

Solutions
A solution is one substance that dissolves into

another substance. The only way to separate a solution is by adding heat. Does anyone remember what that process that is called?

Can anyone think of different types of solutions?

Substance Anything that contains only one kind of material

Solute The substance to be dissolved.

Solubility The amount of solute that can be

dissolved by the solvent.

Solvent The substance doing the dissolving.

There can be many types of solutions.

Solutions can be solids dissolved in liquids like

sugar and water. Solutions can be gases dissolved in liquids (carbonated water). Solutions can be liquids dissolved in liquids like gasoline.
