Social Studies On Grade Level

Friday Lesson 5- Fieldtrip to Ellis Island.

Goal 5- Students will participate in a fieldtrip to Ellis Island to help tie together all of the goals and concepts learned this week. Affective Objectives: 5.1 Students will stay in groups with their chaperones and use appropriate, respectful behavior at all times. Resources/ Materials: Emergency phone number/contact binder Students souvenir money Chaperone list Group lists with chaperone name First-aid kit Backpack Games Snacks

Teaching Strategies/ Methods: 6:45-7:00 Teacher arrives at 6:45, bus will arrive at 7:00. 7:00-7:30 Students begin to arrive, all will be there by 7:30. Hand out itinerary to parents before they leave. 7:30-8:00 When all students and chaperones are on the bus explain expectations of good behavior, listening ears, and staying with chaperones. 8:00 Bus leaves school headed for Ellis Island. 9:00-9:30 Bus games such as license plates and I Spy. 9:30-10:00 Small snack provided, orange and apple slices. 10:00-11:00 Bus games such as Im going on a picnic and 20 questions. 11:00-11:30 Arrive at Ellis Island go to cafeteria area and have lunch. 11:30-2:30 Split into groups. Two groups of three and one group of four. Begin the tour of the island. Groups can vote on areas of interest. Visit the souvenir shop. Head back to the bus by 2:30. 2:30 Be back at the bus and do a head count and leave Ellis Island heading back to school. 3:30 Small snack provided, pretzels and juice boxes. 4:00 Bus games, students choice

4:30 Arrive at school. While still on the bus say Did everyone enjoy the trip? Well on Monday we have another exciting week. We will be talking about interactions of humans and the environment. I am so eager and I can not wait to see all of you Monday morning! then allow parent pickup. Stay until all the students are picked up by their legal guardians, after doing a license check. Once all students have gone home leave and go home as well.
