FFA Alumni Banquet


This year, the Havana FFA Chapter in conjunction with the Havana FFA Alumni hosted a dinner and scholarship auction, February 12. This year's guest speaker was Jacob Meisner, the 2011-2012 State FFA Secretary. The "ignite" themed banquet embraces 80 years of FFA traditions while looking forward to the organization's future. There was 85 Alumni members and guests present, which helped fundraise $1,500 for Scholarships

National FFA Week


During the week, students and teachers joined FFA members in a variety of activities that "ignited" excitement throughout the school. Tuesday: Duck Dynasty Day and Egg toss. Wednesday: Farmer Day and Bale Toss. Thursday: Duck Tape Day and Chicken Scramble along, Truck Show and Pork Chop Lunch. Friday: Blue and Gold Day and Ag Olympics which consisted of corn shucking, filling a bucket with water using a can with holes, three legged race and goat roping.

On Friday the FFA Officers cooked breakfast for Teachers.

In support of the National FFA quest of "Feeding the World" initiative, students became Hunger Hero's by donating 550 pounds of canned goods. FFA members continue to learn about hunger and taking action to support their local food pantries.

Public Speaking Contest & Greenhand Quizbowl


Eileen Urish of the HHS FFA Chapter won fourth place in Section 12, Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking Contest. The Extemporaneous Public Speaking , CDE know as Career Development Event, challenges FFA members to prepare and present a factual speech on a specific agricultural issue in a well thought out and logical manner. Members select one topic from a choice of categories, have thirty minutes to prepare a four to six minute speech, and respond to five minutes of questions following. Two HHS freshman participated in the National FFA Creed competition Courtney Richardson & Jaqueline Ishmael got second place in Section 12, National Creed Speaking Career Development Event. The National FFA Creed is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to present the National Creed in a competitive setting. Members deliver the creed from memory. The Greenhand Quizbowl team comprised of 4 first year FFA members. This team captured 2nd place for the Section Contest. Greenhand Quizbowl competition comprised of five rounds of FFA questions that they had learned in the Introduction to Agriculture Class.

Poultry Judging Team


The Poultry Evaluation is one of 25 divisions offered under the Career Development Events. The HHS FFA Poultry Team received 6th in Section 12 FFA competition. This event tests students in skills in the production, processing, and marketing of chickens, turkeys, processed poultry products and eggs. Four participants per team, which consisted of Garrett Mibbs, Courtney Richardson, Jacqueline Ishmael and Blake Stephens. Top three team members' scores count toward total team score.

SAE Contest
Rachel Fornoff & Eileen Urish compete with their Supervised Agricultural Experience Projects (SAE) at the Section 12 contest. Eileen Urish got second place in Swine Production Entrepreneurship and Rachel Fornoff received first place in Diversified Ag Production Entrepreneurship. Rachel went on to the District 3 competition on March 12, 2014, where she received first place. At the District 3 Contest both Cody Zeeck and Rachel Skien served as judges. Rachel advanced onto State SAE Contest at the University of Illinois on April 5, 2014, Where she got third place. At the State level both Phil Foster and Rachel Skien served as judges.
