(continued on page 2)
On February 18, the Perry County Conservation District held a dinner at the Church of Christ Hospitality Room to honor Bill Growns and his nearly 40 years of service to the PCCD board. Chairman Lee Nutt presented Mr. Growns with a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Also in attendance were Bills wife Marty, board members Rayford Windle, Karen A. Brazil, Conrad Gunther and Karla Bull along with spouses. Jody Rodgers from NRCS attended along with Blake Walters from ANRC and Cristin Davis, PCCD Office Manager. A delicious meal was served by the Perry County EHC followed by several heartfelt speeches about Mr. Growns and how much his work has meant to both the conservation district and the county

Good farmers, who take seriously their duties as Stewards of Creation and of their land's inheritors, contribute to the welfare of society in more ways than society usually acknowledges, or even knows. These farmers produce valuable goods, of course; but they also conserve soil, they conserve water, they conserve wildlife, they conserve open space, they conserve scenery. Wendell Berry
Recently I had the privilege to uncover some photo archives of both our work and farming and conservation practices from decades gone by. These glimpses into the past and their reflection on the future were so fascinating that I wanted to share them with the world. Where available, I have given descriptions, names and photographer credits. I hope to add more photos to the library as time allows and I welcome any submissions from outside parties who would like to add to our collection. Thank you for your time, Cristin To view the photos online, go to: http://www.perrycountyconservat ion.org/pccd-history.html
Of all the questions which can come before this nation, short of the actual preservation of its existence in a great war, there is none which compares in importance with the great central task of leaving this land even a better land for our descendants than it is for us. Theodore Roosevelt
