ASSIGNMENT NO.1.

SUBJECT:
CIRCUIT ELECTRONICS (CE) SUBMITTED TO: SIR.DR. ASIF ZAHOOR SUBMITTED BY: 1.TAJAMAL HUSSAIN SHAH 2. NABEEL AHMED 3. AUMAIR TAJ 4. USMAN AHMED 5. SYED ASIM RAZA CLASS: MSC 1 (APPLIED PHYSICS) EVENING DATE OF SUBMISSION: 27-11-2013

CHAPTER 1 Q1.Find the conversion relation between kilowatthours and joules.

The approach here is to convert from kilowatthours to watt seconds, then use the fact that 1J=1Ws: 1kWh=1000W*3600s=3.6* Ws=3.6MJ

Q2. For an electrical rate of 7c kilowatthour, what does it cost to leave a60-W light bulb on for 8 h? The cost equals the total energy used times the cost per energyunit: Cost = 60W*8h*1kWh/1000Wh =3.36c

Q3. An electric motor delivers 5 hp while operating with an efficiency of 85 percent. Find the cost for operating it continuously for one day(d) if the electric rate is 6e kilowatthour. The total energy used is the out put power times the times of operation, all divided by the efficiency. The product of this energy and the electric rate is the total cost: Cost = 5hp*1d*1/0.85*6c/1kWh*0.7457kW/1hp*24h/1d = 632c= 6.32 Q4. Find the charge in coulombs of (a)6.28* Ans. (a)-1006C (b) 140C Q5. How many electrons have a total charge of -4nC? Ans. 2.5* electrons. electrons and (b)8.76* protons.
