Jane Johnson Curriculum Title: Colorful and Musical Feelings

Utah State Standard: Standard 1 Objective 3 (first grade content) Develop and use skills to communicate ideas, information, and feelings. Objective: Students will learn primary colors and combine two to make other colors. Materials: Book Mouse Paint by Ellen Stool Walsh, food dye, icing, cookies Intended Learning Outcomes: same as objective Instructional Procedure: 1. Read Story Mouse Paint. 2. Stop as mice change color. 3. Have children add food coloring to icing to make colors as story is read. 4. Ice a cookie with each color, so six cookies at end of story. 5. Children pick favorite color of mouse. 6. Put the favorite mouse on Mouse Graph. Family Connections (Take Home Activity): Have students ask family members what their favorite color is and make a mouse graph. Students then determine what the familys favorite color is by which color the family chose most often. Assessment Plan: Give students a color wheel worksheet. Guide them in coloring in the red, yellow and blue spaces. Then let them do rest on own. Observe to see if they recognize which colors mixed together to make new color.
