UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN LESSON PLANNING

FALL SEMESTER OF 2012

UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN STAGE 1

In this first stage I established the overall goals for the unit

of study including transfer, meaning, skill and knowledge goals

These objectives would later be refined into four focused

objectives which my lessons would focus on and the summative assessment would assess.

UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN STAGE TWO

In this stage I decided upon the goals from stage one that would be addressed and determined that my evaluative criteria would be a summative assessment. The next step was deciding how to focus these goals into four objectives which I included in this stage.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

The next step was to create a summative assessment. In order to create this summative assessment I made sure to include a test explanation for my students which listed the four objectives that were going to be addressed. I then created an assessment that featured multiple choice, binary choice, matching, and an essay portion.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT CONTINUED.

TEST PLAN

The last thing I did was analyze and adjust the summative assessment after creating it in order to ensure that my four objectives were balanced. In order to do this I filled out a test plan.

RESULTS
I CREATED A SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT WHICH FEATURED A BALANCE AMONG OBJECTIVES. FURTHERMORE, ESTABLISHING THE SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND THE OBJECTIVES THAT WOULD BE ON IT BEFORE LESSON PLANNING ENSURED THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO PLAN MY LESSONS WITH THE OVERALL OBJECTIVES IN FOCUS.
