Energy Lab Report Guide

Standards Purpose/Background Research: - Description of how temperature effects egg and at what temperature an egg is hard boiled. - Use the following terms: Endothermic, Exothermic, Reactant, Product, system, surrounding, energy, heat, temperature, bonds broken, bonds formed, energy released, energy absorbed. - A drawn model of your system and surrounding. Show transfer of energy in this model. (include thermometer, the chemical reaction and the egg in this model). Label Endothermic and Exothermic parts of your model. Experimental Design: - Lists your independent variable (what you are varying), dependent variable (what you are measuring) and constants (what you make sure to keep the same for all samples. - Write a balanced chemical equation of your reaction. - Explains your procedure in enough detail for another person to follow. Data: - A graph that illustrates your results in a way that makes sense to the viewer. - A quantitative or qualitative measurements of how boiled your egg became. Conclusion: page or more - A short summary of the data collected in the experiment and report the loss or gain of heat energy in your system and surrounding (reaction and egg). - An explanation of what your results mean. - A reflection on your hypothesis. - Explain the purpose of the balanced chemical equation in carrying out your reaction(s). - Identify sources of error and the way in which they may have impacted your results. - Propose next steps for further experiments. Comments I/M/E

Exceeding Standard:
Compare the Stoichiometric ratios to the procedural experiments. Talk about the role enthalpy plays in the ratios. What happens when you increase or decrease? Which reactants will get used up and which reactants would be excess. Calculate Enthalpy change.
