1. Did your supervisor provide you with learning opportunities or make an effort to train you? Explain. There is little training at The Pulse aside from practice, which is the best training. However, when asked, the editors were happy to provide some feedback, though it was minimal. 2. Do you feel satisfied with the variety and nature of experiences of your internship? Explain. Yes. I had the opportunity to write pieces on a range of topics and varying in length. This writing practice was invaluable for me, and the bylines I have accumulated for a weekly publication were crucial for starting a career in freelance writing. 3. Would you recommend that this organization be retained as a participant in the internship program? Explain. Yes. For any student hoping to write, the experience is important not only for their portfolio, but also their confidence (especially if they, like me, havent had previous experience). Although there isnt much direction given at The Pulse, the process of researching and writing is great experience. 4. What advice would give future interns not necessarily about the place you are working but about the internship experience itself? Dont be afraid to ask for advice and feedback. Also, proofread your own work before publication, even if its already been editedits ultimately your work, your name. Be confident in your knowledge.
5. Summarize your thoughts and observations regarding your internship. How do you feel about the experience? Do you believe you are prepared to enter the professional world? Why or why not? It was a really great experience doing a writing internship for a weekly publication, especially with my hopes of freelance writing after graduation. Im not yet confident with my writing, so I dont feel completely ready to enter the professional world, but I think that will only come with much more time.
