Former California Attorney General Endorses Brewer for DA

Former California Attorney General John Van de Kamp has endorsed Bob Brewer for San Diego County District Attorney. Van de Kamp was the Los Angeles County District Attorney when Brewer served in the office as a deputy district attorney. Its time for a change at the San Diego DAs Office, Van de Kamp said. New blood is needed at the top. Bob Brewer has the intelligence, background, and independence to make a great DA. Bob worked with me when I was LA County DA and was regarded as one our best and brightest. Throughout his career he has maintained the highest standards of integrity and fairness. Bob knows San Diego and will bring a breath of fresh air to the office. In addition to serving as state Attorney General and Los Angeles County District Attorney, Van de Kamp has served as the U.S. Attorney for Californias Central District, its first Federal Public Defender and as the 80th president of the State Bar of California. He was also a former Democratic candidate for Governor of California. He currently is of counsel in the Los Angeles office of the law firm Mayer Brown. John personifies the best of public service, Brewer said. His background as a leader of both prosecutors and defense counsel demonstrates how important balanced experience is to leadership of a prosecutorial agency. I am honored by his endorsement and will be guided by his example as our next District Attorney. Brewer also announced today the endorsement of the Riverside Sheriffs Association. This association represents more than 3,2000 Deputy Sheriffs, Correctional Deputies, District Attorney Investigators, Probation Officers and Deputy Coroners in Riverside County. Robert Masson, President of the Riverside Sheriffs Association, said the decision was an easy one, citing Brewers staunch commitment to public safety and law enforcement concerns and Brewers devotion to community service.
