Adam Smith We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our

own necessities but of their advantages.

My Response - Kaleigh Comish This statement from Adam Smith is very important because I also feel that if a person does not love who they are, they cannot love or help others. People say that we are our own worst critic which is completely true. We are the only person who can make us happy. Having selflove helps us become powerful, positive, and strong and in return we are able to make others feel this way about themselves.

In almost every other race of animals each individual, when it is grown up to maturity, is enitrely independent, and in its natural state has occasion for the assistance of no other living creature.

I have always thought of humans as extremely independent creatures because we are so intelligent, but we are one of the only species which rely on other individuals after we have grown old enough to take care of ourselves. This may be because we are social creatures and need interaction with other humans, but it could also be because we actually rely on other people. We want other people to do jobs which we can do ourselves. Adam Smith talks about how we have the idea of give me what I want and you will have what you want in return.
