The Revolutionary United Front led by Foday Sankoh fought against the government and committed atrocities against civilians. They benefited financially from selling diamonds mined by forced labor. The economy was destroyed and people lived in unsafe conditions. However, since the war ended, organizations like the UN World Food Programme and countries including Nigeria, USA, and England have helped Sierra Leone rebuild.
