A closer look at those who made the Auxiliary possible:

Former President Myrtle McMahan
Myrtle volunteered 22 years with the Auxiliary. Out of those years she spent about 8 of them as a volunteer midwife assistant, helping women go through the miracle of birth. This is just one of the countless ways that the Auxiliary has been able to give back to the community.

How it all started!

The Womens Auxiliary to the City Council Hospital of Fort Worth was organized on March 24th of 1948 and has evolved into the John Peter Smith (JPS) Auxiliary. Throughout those 66 years of hard work and unwavering dedication, the Auxiliary has accomplished an incredible amount of work, and has raised a staggering amount of money. This not only kept JPS standing, but also thriving. The Auxiliary is a separate branch of the JPS Volunteer group. The original purpose of the Auxiliary was to provide a link between the general public and what used to be. Some of the earlier goals were to provide care and comfort to the polio patients. The prestigious role of the JPS Auxiliary President actually experienced many face changes throughout the years, even annually! The middle panel highlights the last former president.
