ASON

Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) is a network management feature which enables dynamic control of transmission networks through an automated management of network resources. ASON functionality is typically made available in higher capacity SDH/SONET and DWDM networks. It enables fast end-to-end service provisioning, re-routing and restoration. As per ITU-T G.8080, the key goals for ASON are: Facilitate fast and efficient configuration within transport layer network Reconfigure or modify connections Perform a protection/restoration function Tejas ASON Solution MeshSDH/SONET the ASON solution from Tejas comes with an innovative control plane architecture which gives service providers fast and reliable connection set-up & restoration across Access, Aggregation and Core networks. Some of the key purposes of Tejas ASON solution are: Auto-configure end-to-end services Auto-discover topology Provide protection/restoration for both mesh and traditional ring networks Provide differentiated services by supporting various customer service level agreements (SLAs) and allow the service provider to make capacity utilization and resilience trade-offs for each customer circuit Key Features Mesh restoration for SDH/SONET networks STM-1/4/16/64 trunks for VC-4, VC-3, VC-12, VC-11, VC4-4c and VC4-16c Centralized Protection Architecture - TJ5500 NMS enabled Automatic and Manual Switching options Switching based on LOS, LOF, LOP, AIS, RDI Shortest path and SRLG based path selection DCN based restoration uses E1, E2, F1 and DCC bytes Compliant to ITU G.8080 ASON architecture, G.7713 (signaling), G.7714 (auto-discovery) and G.7715 (routing) standards Customer Benefits Up to 30% improvement in capacity utilization Higher resiliency by protecting against multiple fiber cuts Cost-effective upgrade options by mining unused capacity in the network Sub-50ms mesh protection possible through pre-planned recovery Tiered protection classes for differential SLAs to multiply revenue streams Network planning tool to simplify operations at NOC
