THE BINARY NUMBER SYSTEM

This system is a base two system, meaning that it only uses two distinct digits: 0,1. Examples of binary numbers: 0000111010101, 10, 1111110

This system is the one we are all familiar with and it is a base ten system. This means it uses ten distinct digits. The digits are: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Examples of decimal numbers: 123, 456,786,234,9988

The word binary comes from Bi meaning two. Think of the word: bicycle (two wheels) binocular (two eyes) When you say binary numbers, you must pronounce each digit.
