ADA Field Trip Tour Route Map We will be travelling to 4 stops in the western United States.

At Stop 1 we will see the Eureka Dunes, located in the Eureka Valley of eastern California, which were created by wind erosion. They are three miles long and one mile wide with an elevation of 600 ft. At Stop 2 is the Great Salt Lake located in the northern part of the state of Utah, this lake is the largest salt water lake in the western hemisphere. The lake is approximately 1,700 square miles. The Warm waters of the lake and the cold west winds create a temperature difference that leads to rain and sometimes snowfall. At Stop 3, we have the Carlsbad Caverns located in New Mexico; these caverns serve as oceanic fossils of the "Capitan Reef" which existed around 200 million years ago. This once shallow inland sea was home to several species such as snails, ammonites, and crinoids. Finally At Stop 4, Santa Catalina Island is an island located just off the coast of California. Its highest point of elevation is at 2,097 ft. It is 22 miles long and 8 miles wide. Catalina was formed by the subduction of the Farallon tectonic Aenean a magna vel pede vestibulum plate.
