Science Fair Olympics

By: Mr. Brad and Mr. Parker

Introduction
Problem: To design and build a racer to enter into a
competition. The winner of the competition will be the team whose car travels the farthest distance.

Each team will start their car at the top of the launch
ramp. The team will then launch their car and measure the final distance it travels. The team with the farthest distance wins!

While making this project you will be required to make

at least TWO adjustments to your car design and test them.

Rules
Teams must use the launch ramp No motors may be used

The car can be no longer than 50cm

The car can be no wider than 40cm

Trial 1 Base Model

Distance: ____ meters

Time: ____ seconds

Speed: ____ m/s

Trial 2 ____________
IF the ________ is changed by _________, THEN it should
increase the distance because ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________

Distance: ____ meters

Time: ____ seconds Speed: ____ m/s

Result: The modification increased/decreased (circle one) the

distance by ____ meters, and the speed by ____ from the base model.

Trial 3 ____________
IF the ________ is changed by _________, THEN it should
increase the distance because ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________

Distance: ____ meters

Time: ____ seconds Speed: ____ m/s

Result: The modification increased/decreased (circle one) the

distance by ____ meters, and the speed by ____ from the base model.

Graphs
You will be required to make two graphs as part of your
report. Your first graph will graph the change in distance between each of your trials. Your second graph will graph the change in speed between each of your trials.

Graphs are to be made on following website:

Speed is calculated as:

Distance Time

Speed is measured in meters per second (m/s)
